Book Summary:A CRY IN THE WOODS
The scream Lena Riddle hears in the woods behind her house is enough to curdle her blood—she has no doubt that a woman is in real danger. Unfortunately, with no physical evidence, the local law officers in small-town Ash, Kentucky, dismiss her claim. But Lena knows what she heard—and it leaves her filled with fear and frustration.
Ezra King is on leave from the state police, but he can’t escape the guilty memories that haunt his dreams. When he sees Lena, he is immediately drawn to her. He aches to touch her—to be touched by her—but is he too burdened by his tragic past to get close? When Ezra hears her story of an unknown woman’s screams, his instincts tell him that Lena’s life is also at risk—and his desire to protect her is as fierce as his need to possess her
My Thoughts:
Talk about suspenseful, I was hooked from the beginning. I sat down to skim a couple of pages and didn’t put it down until I was finished. Needless to say, the next day was a very long day!
Lena and Ezra are one of those couples that you just “want” to get together. They both have past burdens that keep them apart, but you can’t help but cheer when they do take that leap of faith towards each other. If You Hear Her is the first novel in The Ash Trilogy series. It lays the groundwork for the rest of the trilogy; introduces a cast of wonderful characters, some of which we will see in the next set of books and creates a frightening mystery that will leave you guessing.
Lena Riddle is an amazing character and she is beautifully written. She is confident and strong, but feminine at that same time. I liked her sassiness and ability to stand up for herself. Ezra King is a “sigh” worthy hero; tortured yet conflicted, he can’t seem to reconcile his past with his present and that makes him a bit vulnerable. The supporting characters; Lena’s writer friend Law and his friend Hope are brilliantly written with a depth of character that you typically see for secondary characters. I especially liked Hope. Her story is intriguing, that of a battered woman escaping from her ex-husband.
This novel was a bit of a change for me for me from Ms. Walker’s previous works. I have read some of her paranormal and Ellora’s Cave novels, Her writing has always been passionate and steamy but combined with the suspense aspect of If You Hear Her, creates a reading experience that fairly sizzles with anticipation.
If You Hear Her is recommended for those that enjoy romantic suspense, fans that have enjoyed her previous works and anyone who loves solving things. Be warned though, if you get are like me and tend to get sucked into a book trying to figure out who the killer is, give yourself plenty of time to read it cover to cover!

October 24, 2011 7:33 AM@Shiloh Walker - So glad I had the chance to read it early. I can't wait until Law's book, If You Know Her, is released. Is it still scheduled for February 2012?
October 24, 2011 9:01 AMAlso, do you do any research or prep work in regards to Lena's blindness? It was fascinating to read her point of view. Thanks for stopping by!
Sounds fabulous!
October 24, 2011 9:25 AMAs far as I know...yes. As to Lena... if you saw the acknowledgement, mostly the research i did was speaking with people with visual impairments (varying degrees, from moderate to legally blind) and a few doctors.
October 24, 2011 3:13 PM@Patricia Eimer It is Patricia. You know how you "like" my book recommendations. ;)

October 24, 2011 7:38 PMJeez, I really hate blog hops sometimes, they seems to take the blog out of blogging. I think I need to come up with a "different" type off giveaway. Putting on my thinking cap!
