Book Summary:She’s looking for an old friend…In the wake of a nasty divorce, Lacey Bradford heads for Wyoming where she’s sure her old friend will take her in. But her high school pal Chase Caldwell is no longer the gangly boy who would follow her anywhere. For one thing, he’s now incredibly buff and handsome, but that’s not all that’s changed…What she finds is one hot cowboy…Chase has been through tough times and is less than thrilled to see the girl who once broke his heart. But try as he might to resist her, while Lacey’s putting her life back together, he’s finding new ways to be part of it.
My Thoughts:
Tall, Dark and Cowboy is a wonderful blend of contemporary romance, westerns and romantic suspense all artfully woven together in a heartwarming story about forgiveness, learning to trust again and the power of second chances.
Lacey Bradford has endured a lot in her short life. She married young and found out that her prince charming was really a toad. Fortunately, she finds some inner strength and flees to the safety of the one person she had always trusted; her high school friend Chase Caldwell.
Chase had been Lacey’s friend, but unknown to her, he had been in love with her. When Lacey’s marries, Chase feels betrayed and leaves town to forge his own life. However, he never forgets her and compares every women to Lacey. When she walks back into his life, he is torn. He was devastated when Lacey betrayed him all those years ago. Now that Lacey is back, can he trust her with his heart a second time?
Chase’s character is the strength of the book. He’s family loyalty, honesty and humbleness are just a couple of his strengths, not withstanding that he is tall, dark and handsome. Lacey was enjoyable, but for me she doesn’t shine as much as Chase’s character. She has soft spots for animals and children, but her strength is in learning that she can be much more than what she has been and with Chase’s help she learns to do just that.
The secondary characters are a hoot in Tall, Dark and Cowboy. I loved Chase’s crotchety neighbor and his sister and neice. They brought a depth to Chase’s character that showed his caring nature and made him more than just a handsome cowboy.
Tall, Dark and Handsome is recommend for readers that enjoy second chance love stories, witty dialogue and caring, sensitive heroes that are always willing to save a damsel in distress. (Reviewed by Sherri)
