February 2012: Red Dress Read & Review-A-Thon Reading Event

February is a special month for me. It is a month for women to participate in local and national events that recognize and promote heart awareness for women. If you haven’t participated in any of them before, they are numerous worthwhile programs and demonstrations.

So why does this event touch me so? Well, at the age of 37, I was diagnosed with a blockage in my heart and had to undergo emergency quadruple bypass surgery to correct the issue.  I don’t talk much about it, but February and this Go Red event seems to be the appropriate time to share a little throughout them month.

I’ve often thought about how to promote this issue, but Urban Girl Reader is a blog about books, so it never seemed the time or the place to do so.  After talking with some friends, we came up with this idea.  In honor of “Go Red” month and my love off reading, I’ve decided to host the:

Red Dress Read & Review-A-Thon

hosted by Urban Girl Reader

What exactly is the Red Dress Read & Review-A-Thon? It is an event in which you guys read and review books related to the “Go Red” theme and earn prizes for doing so.  The special twist on the event is that the more you guys read and review, the more Urban Girl Reader will donate to Go Red for Women.

urban Girl Reader (aka Sherri) has set up a donation page for the Go Red for Women event and made an initial contribution of $50. No matter what happens, $50 will be donated to the program.  Now for your part - for every 50 reviews that are completed by you guys, an additional $10 will be contributed to Go Red for Women fundraising effort.

Also, if anyone wishes to make a donation, the minimum is $5.00, just click the banner at the top of the blog and you will be linked directly to the Urban Girl Reader page where you can donate directly. Donations go to Go Red for Women and UGR receives nothing from your donation (except a warm, fuzzy feeling that you contributed). Red heart

At the end of the month, each valid link will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card to either the Book Depository or Amazon.  Also, if there are any authors out there that would like to contribute a book to the giveaway that would be greatly appreciated and accepted.

A separate post where you can put your links will be posted in the next couple of days and a link placed in the Current Giveaway Box at the top of the blog. Any questions, just leave a comment and I will answer it.
